There’s always a tangible level of exhaustion and excitement at this time of year. Reconciliation Day often marks the first day of the year end break, and with the glorious summer weather, December is the time that we, as South Africans, enjoy time off. Road trips, stay-cations, mini-projects, and moments, Dezemba is a whole mood!
Reflection forms part of where we are in our yearly cycle. It’s hard to believe that the year started with the news that the Parliament Buildings in Cape Town had been damaged by a fire that tore through the historic building and the seat of our democracy. One also gets the sense that things haven’t slowed since then. In our resilience we’ve embraced “stages” of electricity supply, rising cost of fuel and basic supplies, motions of no-confidence, reports and reviews and farm-gate.
A journey is described as, “progress from one stage to another”, and I want to take this opportunity to say acknowledge the journey of 2022 and say, “Thank You”.
For the most part we are AC (after covid) and despite still having a few masks around the house and some sanitiser in the car door, we’ve navigated the new normal and it has been great to embrace clients and their ideas literally and figuratively.
Television is a growing part of our skills set, focus and expertise and I still love seeing the work we do come alive on screen. uBettina Wethu celebrated season two in 2022 and working alongside the Production Team, MediaHeads 360 has further entrenched ourselves as integrated content marketing specialists. It has been a year of lights, camera, and action, thank you for being on-set with us.
Radio remains a huge part of our passion and focus. With storytelling at the heart of our ideas, we’ve loved working with Standard Bank on their Iketsetse Zenzele radio drama. Radio connects and it is privilege to be able to educate and entertain audiences in a space they call their listening home. Thank you for letting us be part of your listening experience.
Our team thrives on ideas and we’re always looking to activate in new spaces. Cell C made the perfect partner as we took our passion for radio and merged it with on-site activations across the country. From larger-than-life mobile phones to enthusiastic consumers, it is wonderful to see brands in action. Thank you for believing in our ideas and making them come to life, we’ve loved amplifying this campaign.
With the support of our clients, we’re able to contribute to organisations and people who are passionate about their communities and media development. It remains a privilege to invest into our industry and we will continue to support learning and development in 2023.
We are grateful to be able to be a diverse collective and it has taken time for us to find the right people, but we couldn’t be happier. It is tough to see valuable team members leave to embrace new challenges, but equally rewarding to see them thrive. We’ve welcomed new members to our crew, and I still absolutely love the fact that our Internship Programme has not only created learning and development opportunities for young talent, but that we’ve been able to retain these skills and grow our company. Without our people and their ideas, there would be no MediaHeads 360. To our team who manage, create, connect, produce, write, record, and deliver daily, thank you.
As we embrace the final few weeks of exhaustion and seek the excitement of the holidays, let’s be mindful of those around us. It might be a simple act of kindness, a meal, an acknowledgment, or a phone call. Let’s not miss an opportunity to extend our thanks.
A famous radio line from the Bongani Bingwa Breakfast Show was retired this year after a ruling at the BCCSA, and it couldn’t be more appropriate as the ice melts on 2022, “let’s light the fires and kick the tyres”, thank you 2022!
